This opportunity comes to market from a leading manufacturer of vehicles in the West Midlands. Continuing to grow this household name have developed their vehicles in the UK for over 100 years and has a strong reputation for high quality vehicles tailored to their customers’ requirements.

The business is committed to ensuring their vehicles stay ahead of their competitors and see investing in their electrical, electronic and software design capability as critical to their future success. Having successfully brought their first all-electric vehicle to market and learnt a lot of lessons along the way the team are now focused on the development of next generation Hybrid and Electric vehicles implementing lessons learnt and advancing their in-house capability.

Joining them as Software and Controls Team Lead you will lead your team to deliver high quality control systems and embedded software products as you take pro-active ownership of software for both in-house developed systems and third party supplied software. You will also have significant involvement in production software support, functional safety and cyber security activities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the creation of a set of requirements which will form the basis of the software development lifecycle
  • Software development for electric vehicle applications including utilising MATLAB/Simulink for model-based development
  • Software code generation for deployment in a rapid prototyping unit (RPU)
  • Support the implementation of tests that will enable the initial requirements to be tested and reported upon
  • Verification of software code coverage and software structure
  • Aiding in hardware in the loop testing

This is a 1st line management role so will suit an experienced senior engineer still interested in maintaining a hands-on technical role alongside their management responsibilities. You will need to demonstrate existing leadership/management experience, knowledge of the V model and a deep understanding of both agile and waterfall software delivery requirements. Knowledge of ISO26262 is also key as is a background in the development of embedded software and control systems within the automotive sector.

The hiring manager is also particularly interested in applicants who have worked across the project lifecycle not just in early research but seeing the software their team has developed, released and pushed into full production.
